Unit 5
The century and a half from 1750 to 1900 was dominated by revolutions both political and economic in nature. The policies of absolute monarchs and the socioeconomic statues quo was challenged by a new age of “enlightened” political thinkers. The enlightenment ushered in a time of political change in many of the European powers. The ideas of the enlightenment and the revolutions it caused gave rise to new nations, such as the United States and Haiti, while at the same time reorganizing older orders such as in France. Some revolutions would cause far more destruction and change than those individuals that started them could have foreseen. By the end of the 1700's and the early 1800's a new economic revolution was taking shape. This revolution centered round the large scale manufacturing of goods. The Industrial Revolution would help usher in the world we recognize today.
