Unit 2
With the collapse of the major classical civilizations two new major players emerged. One would rise out of the Arabian Peninsula and the other out of the steppes of central Asia. Islam and the Mongols dominated this period of human history; however, not all of the classical civilizations disappeared entirely. What was left of Rome became the Byzantine Empire and the Chinese dynastic cycle continued. While much of the world thrived the fall of the western Roman Empire plunged Europe and most of the western world into the turmoils of the middle ages.
